With ongoing public funding challenges, schools are having to cut or reduce art, music, physical education, sports, character education, and more. In our county, the school superintendent says that they could cut all these programs and still be 50 million dollars over their budget.
At least in my area, it's a dig-deep-and-sacrifice climate. Unfortunately, it is partly our children's quality education that is being sacrificed. Many parents already homeschool their children. I wonder if more will decide to homeschool next year as they see class sizes increased and important subjects canceled. Those who don't homeschool may decide to take certain subjects into their own hands with extra trips to the science museum or more exposure to foreign languages.
Even children who go to the best schools should engage in learning activities, tasks, field trips, and more with their parents.
Who should make sure our children are adequately educated? The public school system? Our church schools? Private schools? Yes, those schools should do everything they can to provide the best possible education for our children. BUT...
Who is responsible for our children's education? We, the parents.
